Luxury Kitchen Commissions

The highest end of the bespoke kitchen market is where the luxury artisanal kitchens lie.

Truly bespoke, handcrafted in the finest materials by the top cabinet makers in the country.

These kitchens require some very specialised finishes to compliment the craftsmanship of the cabinetry and the interiors they are sat within.

I have worked with extremely discerning individual clients as well as collaborating with most of the top luxury kitchen companies to create colour, paint finishes and splashbacks, designing luxury kitchens unparalleled in quality and style.

Black Pearl

This beautiful, contemporary kitchen was designed to compliment the client’s vast modern art collection.

My brief was to design and create a soft, textured and shimmering paint effect for the cabinetry to subtly compliment the curated ethereal stained glass windows.

I used a series of off and near back acrylics to create the base colour interspersed with subtle pearlescent achieving a hard wearing and timeless finish, exactly to the brief.

Needless to say, the client was delighted with it.

Burnished Patina

The brief was to design a cohesive colour and paint effect to compliment the many varied elements in the kitchen. The light bounce and variation of colours within these elements meant that a truly bespoke approach was called for. Designing the paint effect on site was an unusual approach, but worked well given the client’s eclectic taste.

With colours and textures covering dark stained ash through silvers, golds, verdigris and a natural oak floor, there was certainly a challenge to find an appropriately cohesive colour palette for the paint effect on the cupboards.

I took my inspiration from lustreware pottery from the early 1900’s.  I used 3 layers of bespoke colour predominantly in aged greens and made up into glazes – 3 translucent and burnished coats over a cross hatched solid base colour.

Soft Glazed Finish

The collaboration of this kitchen took over 2 years of samples and design conversations with the discerning client and the kitchen design team to complete.

This was a multi faceted design with every single element bespoke and handmade. The handles, bronze trim, onyx sink, worktops and a myriad of other details, all specifically and individually made to the client’s requirements.

My brief was no less detailed and complicated. I had to design a specific and exact shade of colour within a soft movement of subtle paint glaze to enhance the whole design of the kitchen.

I also designed and created 12 complicated panels of pure silver leaf Verre Eglomise splashback to wrap around the vast cooker hood and wall cabinets. These panels had to have a refined patination which was only possible with Italian pure silver leaf that had to be specially imported.

What this collaboration showcases is how a design team and talented artisans can work harmoniously to produce an outstandingly beautiful luxury kitchen.

Verre Eglomise

Dating from the 18th century, Verre Eglomise is the art of gilding behind glass.

I took this ancient technique and converted it into a contemporary slant on traditional kitchen splashbacks.

These Verre Eglomise splashbacks are commissioned by individual clients who require a greater level of art, style and creativity infusing into their luxurious kitchens.

Honeysuckle Verre Eglomise

The client had quite specific requirements for the design of the Verre Eglomise splashbacks which I had to interpret through the technique of reverse painted artwork, and gold and silver gilding.

Taking inspiration from Honeysuckle, I worked closely with the client to design a floral motif for the artwork on this very special commission.

This began with sketches then progressed into actual samples of the detail on glass and gilded for the client’s approval.

The design was hand painted onto the reverse of the toughened glass splashbacks. Then the panels were water gilded with pure silver leaf, left to dry and distressed. Leaving a beautifully decorative antique mirrored effect and a totally unique splashback.

During the process of designing the artwork, the client and I even went as far as deciding what would be hanging from the rails above the artwork so as not to obscure the delicate detail in the hand painting.

Pied a Terre

I was commissioned to produce a triptych of Verre Eglomise panels for use as a splashback behind the cooker and sink. This complimented the pewter panels and stained ash cupboards and gave a softly textured reflection, creating a feeling of space and light bounce to the open plan living area.

I worked closely with the client to produce the exact ageing and texture of the pure silver leaf. This was achieved by using templated toughened glass panels. Using a solution of gelatine as the transparent bonding agent, the silver leaf was floated onto the reverse side of the glass, creating a delicate antique silvered mirror effect. It was then gently distressed giving a subtly aged finish to the whole splashback.
